THE SILENCE IS DEAFENING

It’s 1.22pm.  The toddler is asleep.  The older three are at school.  The TV is off (for once) and the only sound I can hear is the fridge fan.  That fridge fan seems a bit loud.  Maybe it’s broken.  I wonder how long it’s been like that.  Who would know?  It would probably take the door falling off its hinges for me to realize that the fridge was on the way out.  It’s not like food remains in there long enough for me to notice the fridge not doing its job.

Anyways, I digress.  Which I suppose is the point really.  I’ve stopped long enough to hear the silence.  I can digress.  There is nothing that needs to be attended to at this very minute.

Sure if I look over at my desk that pile in my in-tray I’m sure to break this silence with a defeated groan.  So I won’t….look….too late. *groan*

I can’t believe how noisy my life is ordinarily.  What is more bizarre, when I’m presented with an obligation free afternoon, I’m at a loss.   I don’t know what to do.

That list that we all have, you know the one that’s title “If I had more free time”, yeah that one.  Well mine, from memory, is extensive.  I wonder where it is; maybe if I prioritized that list I wouldn’t be sitting here wondering what exactly to do.

Hmmm, where to find it; where would it be?  I suspect it is in that teetering pile of papers in my in-tray.  Well…..better start going through it.

Now this feels familiar.  Little bit of noise and something practical to do.

Hi, my name is Mrs M and this is my life.

I think there’s an app for that.

There’s used to be a pill for everything, now there’s an app. :-)

      “an obligation free afternoon”…what’s that?

Even when I have a bit of time on my hands, there is always that arm-length list of long-abandoned projects that I *should* be doing, but choose not to. Then there’s the guilt.

I wish for the day that I am looking around for something to do, but then I know someday I will look back on these busy days with fondness, longing for the busyness again. I’m just never satisfied. 😉
